I had the best intentions to show up brilliantly for you this week. I had things planned. They were good things meant to inspire and delight you, and if I did my job right, they would make you think a little differently about yourself and the world around you.
But then life happened. And by life, I mean this…
I’m tagging along with Walter on his work trip. I had planned to kinda ‘do my thing’ while he did his, and we’d meet up for dinner and all that jazz. You know the drill.
I expected we’d be staying at a normal hotel but when I got here, it was fucking (sorry, Mom) amazing. Suddenly my desire to ‘get shit done’ and be (somewhat) of a creative genius flew out the window, instantly replaced by an innate desire to lay around in the sun and just ‘chill.’Â
Life was happening, and I had to decide if I would take advantage of it.
It made me think about all the other times I typically say, ‘Life happened,’ and my plans changed. This phrase is generally reserved for something unexpected and bad, or at least more on the negative side.
But what if I flipped the script on this?Â
How many times have I changed course because something good was happening, and I wanted to take advantage of it?Â
Kids home for a few extra days?
A lifelong friend stops by unexpectedly?
A chance to hang by the pool and go boating suddenly becomes available?Â
Should I change my plans? Or stay the course?
There was something inside of me that didn’t want to take advantage - not at first.Â
What about the chapters in the book that need revising?Â
What about the commitment to the brand and business I’m building?
What about my five paid subscribers who expect and deserve new content each week? (for the rest of you 355, your day is coming - lol)
Is it okay for me to take advantage of something just because I want to, just because it will make me happy, fulfilled, and satisfied?Â
I’m thinking - I’m hoping the answer is YES. And to further this point, am I actively looking for these opportunities? Could ‘life happening’ begin to equal, ‘I did the thing that was best for me,’ instead of ‘I dealt with the thing that happened to me.’
I hope I’ve still encouraged you to think a little differently about yourself and the world around you. Â
I would love to hear how you would handle this situation. Let me know in the comments below.Â
In the meantime, I’m swimming to the bar to grab lunch.
Until next time…

PS - Everyone should visit Resorts World in Bimini. It’s awesome.Â
PPS - Have you ever flown on a seaplane? I had not until today. Here’s what it’s like to land.

You should feel ZERO remorse for enjoying what you're doing right now!!
I have felt this same type of guilt before when taking a week off of publishing. I think it's just built-in. But go...have an umbrella cocktail for the rest of us! We'll be here when you return!
"Is it okay for me to take advantage of something just because I want to, just because it will make me happy, fulfilled, and satisfied?" Why, yes. Yes, it is!
