How Your Inner Child Impacts Your Relationships Today

"Turns out your inner child has terrible taste in men!"

Hey friends,

Do you ever wonder why certain patterns keep showing up in your relationships? Or why you sometimes react to situations in ways that don't quite make sense, even to yourself?

This week on the podcast, I sat down with my friend and colleague Shannon Yonge, an intuitive master life coach who specializes in helping women in midlife reconnect with themselves. We dove deep into inner child work and how those earliest years (ages 0-7) continue to influence our relationships as adults.

Here's what struck me most from our conversation: your inner child holds SO much wisdom. When we lose touch with that part of ourselves – which often happens as life gets busy with careers, families, and responsibilities – we can also lose our sense of joy, passion, and authentic connection.

Shannon shared that a healed inner child shows up in relationships as mutual, loving, supportive connections where you feel safe to be your authentic self. An unhealed inner child, on the other hand, might have you constantly chasing attention or stuck in a giving/taking imbalance.

If you're feeling disconnected from yourself or your joy, it might be time to reconnect with that inner child. Start simple – Shannon suggests looking at a childhood photo of yourself and speaking words of love and reassurance to that little version of you. It sounds simple, but it can be incredibly powerful.

Remember, we didn't get to where we are by ourselves, and we don't have to do the healing work alone either. Whether through books, podcasts, therapists, or coaches like Shannon (who generously offered my community 20% off a single session with code SARA20), support is available.

What about you? Have you done any inner child work? I'd love to hear your experiences in the comments.
